LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Brainiac’s plan to bottle entire worlds gives this colorful superhero adventure a suitably cosmic sense of scale. Batman leaves Gotham behind and joins the Justice League, Green Lantern Corps members, and even familiar DC villains in a race across the universe to recover the Lantern Rings. The story keeps the series’ trademark slapstick humor intact, turning dramatic comic-book rivalries into playful scenes packed with visual gags, costumes, and absurd LEGO destruction. Although the stakes involve Earth itself, the mood stays breezy, family-friendly, and proudly silly.

Players smash scenery for studs, fight groups of enemies with simple combo-driven attacks, solve environmental puzzles, and swap between heroes whose powers unlock different paths. Batman’s suit wheel is especially useful, letting him change tools and abilities on the fly, while other characters handle tasks involving strength, technology, flight, mind control, illumination, or special Lantern powers. Missions move between story-focused levels, space sequences, virtual computer challenges, and hub locations such as the Batcave, Hall of Justice, and Watchtower, where collectibles, vehicles, and custom creations provide reasons to revisit completed areas. Local drop-in co-op lets a second player join the chaos, making puzzle-solving and collectible hunting considerably more relaxed.

Its enormous cast is the main attraction: more than 150 playable heroes, villains, and oversized LEGO characters give fans plenty of obscure DC personalities to unlock and test. Rather than treating its comic-book material with grim seriousness, LEGO Batman 3 celebrates every corner of the DC universe, from major Justice League icons to strange Lantern worlds and deep-cut cameos. The level design is less freely roaming than a modern sandbox game, but it rewards repeat visits in the familiar LEGO formula of acquiring a new power, spotting an inaccessible object, and returning later to claim it. Anyone who enjoys LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, earlier LEGO Batman titles, or accessible co-op action finds a packed and cheerful DC toy box here, while longtime comics fans get the most from its character roster and references.
