You select magical books and personal traits when creating a ruler, shaping access to five schools of magic and determining whether your empire leans toward devastating combat spells, summoning, enchantments, or economic control. Armies include conventional infantry, cavalry, and ranged units alongside dragons, trolls, draconians, elves, dwarves, and other race-specific forces, while tactical turn-based battles let spells directly alter a fight’s outcome. Research, rituals, alchemy, item crafting, and global enchantments provide meaningful long-term goals, but careless expansion or weak defenses can leave a realm exposed to raiding rivals.

The strongest feature is the way grand strategy and wizard fantasy feed into each other: conquering a city matters, but the spellbook and magical identity behind that conquest matter just as much. Two planes create room for exploration and strategic surprises, while hundreds of spells, unit types, abilities, and equipment pieces make different rulers and starting choices feel distinct across repeat campaigns.
