Maxwell's Puzzling Demon is an indie Sokoban-style puzzle game built around temperature, positioning, and the consequences of every shove. Hot blocks cannot simply be handled like ordinary crates, while cold blocks become essential tools for cooling them through careful adjacency. The mood is brainy rather than frantic, rewarding patience, planning, and the willingness to rethink a solution several moves before it falls into place.

Each individual stage asks you to push blocks onto their intended positions without trapping yourself or leaving a hazardous hot block where it cannot be managed. Temperature rules add a flexible but demanding extra dimension: cold objects can neutralize hot ones, so a block may serve as cargo, a barrier, or a way to change another block’s state. Progression goes beyond a linear menu of puzzles, since completed levels become movable pieces on each world map. Shifting those cleared stages around unlocks new clusters of challenges, meaning the overworld itself becomes a larger spatial puzzle rather than a simple level select screen.

Ten worlds and more than 350 levels provide a substantial campaign, with optional expert puzzles waiting for players who want even tighter solutions. That two-scale structure is the standout feature, combining compact Sokoban rooms with map-level route planning in a way few puzzle games attempt. A detailed hint system explains mechanics and offers guidance without forcing players to abandon the satisfaction of figuring things out themselves.
