Meltopia is a minimalist exploration adventure set across a frozen landscape where nearly every promising landmark may be sealed beneath snow or ice. Its mood is calm rather than punishing, balancing lonely, wintry vistas with the satisfaction of uncovering warm, watery spaces hidden below the surface. The central mystery revolves around recovering the scattered bones of an ancient mammoth and learning why this place remains locked in the cold.

Progress comes from methodically scanning the environment, melting paths with a heat gun, and hauling newly uncovered materials back to a central platform. Items slowly defrost at the hub, turning each expedition into a small payoff and often providing the clues or resources needed to push farther outward. Thick barriers demand more forceful solutions, so dynamite opens routes that heat cannot, while upgrades make the heat gun quicker and more capable against frosty hostile creatures. There is no rush to follow a prescribed route; caves, tunnels, dungeons, collectibles, and locked-away artifacts encourage players to choose their own direction and gradually map what lies beneath the snow.

Its strongest idea is the physical contrast between the stark overworld and the glistening underground revealed by the player’s own tools.
