Moadra (v1.0)

A hostile alien planet becomes a sprawling labyrinth in this dark, atmospheric Metroidvania. Moadra places you on Protea VI, a desert world scarred by extinction, failed research, and predatory lifeforms, where the search for the protagonist’s lost Neera heritage drives the journey. Its mood leans lonely and oppressive rather than heroic, balancing windswept wastelands, frozen peaks, and contaminated facilities with the constant sense that something dangerous waits beyond the next passage. Progress comes from pushing deeper into a connected world and slowly learning why an ancient civilization vanished 20,000 years earlier.

Movement is central to survival, with rolling, sprinting, leaps, wall jumps, and evasive dodges allowing Moadra to slip through hazards and outmaneuver enemies. Combat demands sharper reactions than a leisurely exploration game: creatures range from smaller alien threats to huge encounters that require smart use of weapons, positioning, and unlocked powers. Defeated organisms yield Protoplasm, a biological resource taken to organic metamorphosis chambers to upgrade abilities and expand the arsenal. That upgrade loop opens previously unreachable routes, while environmental puzzles and concealed passages reward players who revisit older regions with new tools.

The scanner bot is Moadra’s most distinctive exploration device, using an X-ray-like view to inspect wildlife, expose hidden corridors, and build out the map of Protea VI. Rather than simply marking secrets on a wall, it encourages deliberate observation and makes the planet feel like an alien ecosystem worth studying. Its hand-drawn-looking 2D presentation and grotesque organic technology give the adventure a mood somewhere between Metroid, Axiom Verge, and a harsher sci-fi horror comic. Players who enjoy demanding combat, nonlinear map exploration, and the satisfaction of turning mobility upgrades into access to entirely new areas should find plenty to dig into, while newcomers should expect resistance from both bosses and the world itself.
