Montezuma’s Revenge revives the 1980s arcade adventure with its original creator involved, preserving the clean, unforgiving design that made the old Atari version memorable. You guide treasure seeker Panama Joe through a sprawling network of single-screen chambers packed with ladders, ropes, locked doors, hazards, and valuable relics. The mood is bright and cartoony on the surface, but every room demands care: one poorly timed jump can send a promising run back to the start.

Progress comes from learning the pyramid’s layout and using the right key on the right colored door, gradually gaining access to deeper sections. Joe runs, jumps, climbs, and swings across rooms while avoiding snakes, spiders, bouncing skulls, and other enemies that patrol narrow platforms. Swords offer limited protection, while gems increase your score and special items such as the torch help open routes toward the final treasure. Rather than relying on elaborate combat or upgrades, the game builds challenge through precision movement, route planning, and memorization; later rooms become a compact maze of traps, required items, and increasingly demanding jumps.
