Muffles’ Life Sentence is a darkly comic narrative RPG built around prison islands where punishment physically reshapes every inmate into an echo of their alleged sins. Its world moves from icy mountain compounds to blistering desert facilities, balancing body horror, absurdist humor, conspiracy, and a genuine search for identity. The central goal is simple on paper—reach the Warden—but every strange ally, enemy, and recovered memory makes the truth less certain.

Combat uses a turn-based card system rather than constant map battles or repetitive grinding. Muffles steals faces and extracts memories from other inmates, turning those stolen identities into new cards and abilities that can be combined into a personalized deck. Story encounters drive progression, while optional fights offer tougher tests for players who want to push their builds further; the game avoids random battles entirely. Five chapters carry the adventure through shifting prison territories, with party members, gang conflicts, and bizarre authority figures feeding into both the mechanical choices and the larger mystery.

The face-stealing premise gives the deckbuilding a more tangible role than simply collecting cards, since every new option comes from someone Muffles meets or defeats. Maddox’s deliberately ugly surgical punishments, eccentric prisoners, and live-band-backed soundtrack create a tone closer to an off-kilter animated prison satire than a conventional fantasy card battler. A 10-to-15-hour campaign keeps the focus on authored twists instead of endless runs, making it a strong fit for players who enjoy Slay the Spire-style deck construction but want a story-heavy RPG around it.
