By the year 5000, humanity treats its own history like a baffling myth, and that absurd premise gives this sci-fi adventure its charm. Mutropolis follows Henry Dijon, a Mars-born archaeologist who lands on a harsh, abandoned Earth to investigate relics from the old world, from pyramids to portable music players nobody understands anymore. When his mentor, Professor Totel, vanishes, the expedition turns into a mystery involving an impossible lost city and Egyptian gods with alarming plans for mankind. The mood stays playful and eccentric even as the stakes grow larger, delivering a warm, joke-filled take on post-apocalyptic archaeology rather than a grim survival story.

Gameplay follows the classic point-and-click adventure formula: players inspect detailed locations, talk to unusual characters, collect objects, and combine clues to overcome environmental puzzles. Henry’s investigation moves between ruined human landmarks, remote settlements, and increasingly strange science-fiction locations, with each area revealing another piece of the central conspiracy. Puzzles usually reward observation and conversation instead of demanding fast reflexes, though some solutions lean into intentionally silly future interpretations of present-day culture. There is no combat grind or open-world busywork; progression comes from following leads, experimenting with inventory items, and piecing together the story at a relaxed pace.

Its strongest asset is a hand-drawn world that makes Earth feel both recognizable and utterly alien, packed with expressive characters and visual gags. More than 50 scenes give the adventure a solid sense of travel, while full English voice acting helps sell Henry’s earnestness and the cast’s offbeat humor. The writing recalls the accessible comedy of Monkey Island and Deponia, but its archaeological angle and Egyptian myth twist keep it from feeling like a simple imitation. Mutropolis suits newcomers who want a forgiving, story-led puzzle game, as well as genre veterans looking for a shorter adventure with polished art, lighthearted dialogue, and a satisfying mystery.
