World War I becomes a grotesque slaughterhouse where trenches, ruined villages, and mud-soaked battlefields conceal an invasion from hell. NecroVisioN: Lost Company is a standalone prequel to the original horror shooter, casting you as a German soldier caught between a human war and a supernatural catastrophe. The mood is relentlessly grimy and pulpy, mixing historical weapons and machinery with zombies, demons, occult magic, and deliberately excessive gore. Its story fills in key events behind the series’ larger conflict, following a desperate multinational force as the protagonist moves toward a fate that ties directly into the first game.

Combat follows an old-school first-person shooter formula: push through hostile levels, collect an enormous assortment of firearms, conserve ammunition, and blast apart crowds before they can overwhelm you. Rifles, revolvers, shotguns, machine guns, and several outlandish additions all have distinct roles, while melee strikes, finishers, and magic powers give close-range encounters a more aggressive rhythm. New campaign stages add vehicles to the carnage, letting you operate an FT17 tank or take to the air in a Halberstadt plane rather than fighting every battle on foot. Progression comes through weapon upgrades and combat enhancements, although the challenge often relies on large enemy swarms, demanding positioning, awareness, and quick weapon switching more than careful tactical planning.

What separates Lost Company from more conventional military shooters is its gleeful collision of trench warfare imagery and demon-slaying excess. The environments have a bleak, brown-and-red battlefield aesthetic, but the monsters, brutal fatalities, and screen-filling battles make it feel closer to Painkiller or early Serious Sam than a realistic war game.
