A plague-ridden settlement sends its last hope beneath the earth, where every expedition becomes a calculated gamble between discovery and survival. Netherguild is a tactical, turn-based roguelite RPG built around descending into hostile caverns in search of a cure, then making it back with enough supplies and survivors to continue the fight. Its mood is tense rather than relentlessly grim: strange underground encounters, unpredictable discoveries, and the small comfort of a fire in the dark give each run a distinct character. Progress never feels guaranteed, because greed can push a capable party far beyond the point where retreat remains possible.

Players assemble a guild from adventurers with randomized histories and useful specialties, then guide them through procedurally arranged underground regions. Battles favor planning over luck, since attacks connect reliably; positioning, cooldown management, enemy traits, debuffs, and conserving health matter far more than hoping for a lucky hit. Campsites act as essential recovery points, letting the party rest and cook food whose effects can reshape individual members or benefit the entire expedition. Retreating to the surface is part of the loop, not a failure, as returning allows resupply, new decisions, and responses to events unfolding in the settlement above.

Netherguild stands apart from many roguelites by treating combat as an extension of expedition management rather than a separate combat arena. Every enemy encounter asks whether victory is worth the wounds, while unusual artifacts and subterranean events offer choices that can carry consequences beyond the current floor. Randomized gear, party origins, and layouts give repeat runs variety without making tactical understanding irrelevant. Fans of Darkest Dungeon’s attrition, Into the Breach’s deliberate turns, and traditional dungeon crawlers will find plenty to enjoy, especially if they prefer measured decision-making over reflex-heavy action.
