Never 7 – The End of Infinity carries the deliberate pace of a classic visual novel, but its bright holiday setting gives the growing dread an especially effective contrast. Beneath the character banter and scenic downtime lies a story asking whether a foreseen tragedy can truly be avoided.

Most of the playtime involves reading dialogue, examining scenes through simple point-and-click interactions, and choosing how Makoto responds to the people around him. Decisions guide relationships, determine which story routes unfold, and lead toward several endings, so an early playthrough reveals only part of the larger picture. The central appeal comes from revisiting events with new knowledge, noticing suspicious details, and making different choices in an effort to change the outcome. There is no action combat or demanding mechanical challenge; the tension comes from branching narrative logic, character secrets, and the consequences of seemingly casual conversations.

Kotaro Uchikoshi’s early work stands out as a foundation for the kind of layered, twist-driven storytelling later associated with the Zero Escape series. Its structure rewards patience: individual routes initially feel like intimate character dramas, while repeat runs gradually expose the broader sci-fi framework connecting them. The presentation retains an old-school visual-novel sensibility, complete with static character art and text-led scenes, which may feel dated beside modern cinematic adventures but suits players who enjoy reading closely. Fans of Zero Escape, AI: The Somnium Files, or classic branching romances with a darker mystery underneath should find plenty to unpack, while newcomers should expect a slower, more reflective entry point than Uchikoshi’s later escape-room thrillers.
