Players alternate between Anu, an idealistic scientist, Octavio, her fame-hungry hustler brother, and Fran, a furious frozen-yogurt vendor with a score to settle. The result is loud, irreverent, and packed with the offbeat humor, gore, and chaotic energy associated with Borderlands.

Most of the action revolves around dialogue decisions, exploration sequences, quick-time events, and small interactive challenges rather than traditional combat. The campaign unfolds across five chapters, following the trio as they stumble into a planet-wide invasion, a dangerous Vault-related threat, and the schemes of ruthless corporations. What separates it from earlier Borderlands adventures is its focus on civilians rather than Vault Hunters: these are people trying to survive exploitative employers, personal grudges, and a city falling apart around them. Its branching narrative gives decisions real flavor through changed character relationships, scenes, and outcomes, even if it remains a guided story rather than an open-ended RPG. The writing leans heavily into absurdity, but the three leads receive enough personality and conflict to keep the stakes grounded amid talking weapons and killer robots.
