Every weapon class—from swords, spears, and axes to splitstaffs and fists—has high, mid, and low stances, making range, speed, defense, and damage part of every decision. Defeated enemies drop randomized gear, while skill trees, guardian spirits, magic, ninja tools, and soul cores steadily open new build options. Yokai Shift lets your character unleash a powerful demonic form, and Burst Counters reward players who can read enemy attacks under pressure. Solo play is fully viable, though online co-op and revenant encounters offer welcome help or extra challenges when a mission turns punishing.

Its strongest feature is the sheer flexibility behind its punishing surface: an aggressive axe user, nimble dual-sword fighter, spellcasting onmyo specialist, and ranged ninja all feel meaningfully different. Mission-based levels are dense with shortcuts, secrets, dangerous side paths, and enemy layouts designed to test whether you have learned their rhythms rather than merely increased your level. The Complete Edition also includes the three major expansions, extending the campaign with additional regions, weapons, bosses, and late-game build potential. Fans of Dark Souls, Sekiro, or the first Nioh who want faster combat and far deeper loot systems find a lot to master here, while newcomers should expect a steep but fair learning curve.
