Players choose from 15 factions spread across three distinct races, then guide their civilization through the familiar explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate loop. Ground warfare and fleet combat provide separate fronts when negotiations break down, while planetary exploration sends forces into procedurally generated biomes filled with events, independent groups, creatures, and discoveries.
