Mikoto, Waka, Itsuki, and Yuzuha smash through armies of supernatural goons across eight compact stages, balancing cute character designs with hectic, screen-filling violence. Its mood stays playful and arcadey, but the action can turn demanding once tougher enemies and bosses begin crowding the arena.

Combat revolves around moving across multiple foreground and background lanes, chaining normal attacks, launching foes, and spending meter on high-impact specials. Each heroine has a distinct feel, while fighting-game-inspired inputs and cancel options give experienced players room to create more efficient combos than a typical button-mashing brawler allows. Defeated enemies provide experience and points used to strengthen characters and unlock skills, making repeated runs and higher difficulties more manageable while encouraging experimentation with builds. Story mode provides the main rescue mission, and local play supports four-player cooperative or versus matches; online expands that to six players in co-op and eight in competitive modes, with cross-platform matchmaking keeping the pool active.

The Ultimate edition rebuilds the presentation in Unreal Engine 5, aiming for cleaner motion, more dramatic attacks, and a smoother multiplayer foundation than earlier releases. Its biggest draw is the sheer roster depth: finishing the campaign and its ending sequence opens a lineup of 38 fighters for co-op and versus play, including bosses and even lesser enemy types. Stages are not expansive explorations, and the campaign is designed more like an old-school arcade run than a lengthy RPG, but the unlocks, character variety, and score-chasing potential give it replay value.
