You begin as a Watcher, someone able to perceive lingering souls and past lives, then become entangled in a far-reaching conspiracy stretching from worn frontier towns to ruined temples and noble courts. The mood is serious and often bleak, though sharp companion banter and strange local traditions keep the setting from becoming relentlessly grim.

Combat runs in real time with pause, letting you stop the action to queue spells, position your frontline, target dangerous enemies, and coordinate a six-person party. Character creation offers numerous races, classes, backgrounds, cultures, and dispositions, while later choices shape reputations with factions and affect how people respond to your Watcher. Exploration centers on hand-painted maps packed with side quests, hidden loot, scripted interactions, and dungeon encounters where mechanics, lore, athletics, stealth, or survival skills can open alternative solutions.
