Survival revolves around navigating Talos I’s interconnected districts, scavenging ammunition and materials, hacking systems, crafting equipment, and deciding how to handle each hostile encounter. Mimics can disguise themselves as ordinary objects, while larger Typhon force you to use the environment, turrets, grenades, stealth, and the versatile GLOO Cannon rather than simply relying on gunfire. Neuromods let Morgan specialize in human skills such as engineering and hacking or embrace alien powers including telekinesis, psychic blasts, and the ability to mimic objects, opening alternate routes through the station. Many obstacles have several solutions: repair a door, find a keycard, climb through maintenance shafts, manipulate gravity, or turn into a coffee mug and slip through a tiny opening.

Arkane’s strength lies in how naturally its immersive-sim systems encourage improvisation; Talos I rewards attention in the same way as System Shock, Deus Ex, and BioShock, but with a more flexible physical sandbox. The station’s cohesive layout makes backtracking meaningful, as newly gained powers and tools expose shortcuts, side stories, and loot that were previously out of reach. The included Mooncrash expansion adds a separate, replayable roguelite challenge built around successive escape attempts and shifting hazards, while Typhon Hunter offers asymmetrical multiplayer hide-and-seek alongside a short VR escape-room mode. Prey suits players who enjoy thoughtful first-person exploration and emergent problem-solving far more than those seeking a nonstop shooter, and its approachable difficulty options make its intimidating systems welcoming to newcomers.
