PropHunter turns ordinary multiplayer arenas into tense, ridiculous games of cat and mouse, where a chair, box, barrel, or other piece of scenery may be a player waiting to ambush you. Its online hide-and-seek formula splits each round between Props, who disguise themselves as level objects, and Hunters, who must identify and eliminate every suspicious item before time expires. The mood is playful and competitive rather than grim, built around bluffing, panic, and the satisfaction of watching an opponent shoot wildly at harmless furniture. Hiding in an obvious spot can be smarter than fleeing, provided your chosen object looks like it belongs there.

As a Prop, you copy an object’s appearance and behavior, then stay still, reposition, or deliberately cause trouble to mislead the opposing team. Hunters search maps methodically, test suspicious props, and race against the clock; if even one disguised player survives until the round ends, the Hunters lose. The sides do more than simply hide and shoot, because Props can injure Hunters by slamming into them at speed, while defeated players switch teams and keep the round moving. Randomly placed ability cards add another layer of improvisation, granting effects such as invisibility, healing, speed boosts, transformations, intuition-based assistance, or explosives, so control of the map’s pickups often matters as much as a convincing disguise.

What separates PropHunter from a bare-bones prop hunt mode is its shifting team balance and willingness to let the hiding side fight back. Every round produces different hiding places and power-up encounters, making success depend on observation, map knowledge, and a convincing performance rather than aim alone. Open servers support quick public matches, while private servers make it an easy fit for groups who want to turn voice chat into part of the deception.
