A deserted Soviet research complex becomes the center of a slow-burning VR mystery where vanished friends, classified experiments, and impossible phenomena overlap across two eras. Proze: Enlightenment is an exploration-focused adventure with horror tension rather than constant combat, using its Cold War setting to build a feeling of institutional secrecy and creeping dread. The story alternates between present-day Max, searching for Anton and Lera, and the 1970s perspective of Anatoly, an employee whose own investigation uncovers the project’s uglier purpose. Its tone is somber and unsettling, with the human cost of military ambition carrying as much weight as the supernatural anomalies.

Most of the experience revolves around searching detailed interiors and forested grounds, examining clues, manipulating machinery, and figuring out how to open the next route through the facility. VR-specific interactions ask you to physically handle objects and work with the environment, while spatial audio helps sell the isolation of abandoned corridors and distant disturbances. Puzzles demand more than simply finding keys: players need to use logic, orient themselves in complex spaces, and occasionally react with enough speed and precision to deal with hazards. Progress is narrative-driven, steadily connecting the disappearances in the modern timeline to the original Enlightenment experiment.

The dual-time structure gives the investigation more texture than a straightforward haunted-lab story, letting discoveries in one period reshape the meaning of events in the other. Instead of relying on cheap scares alone, the game leans on mood, environmental storytelling, and a distinctly Eastern Bloc sci-fi aesthetic reminiscent of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. filtered through a focused VR puzzle adventure. Expect deliberate pacing and demanding navigation rather than arcade action, particularly in the more elaborate puzzle sequences. It suits VR players who enjoy atmospheric mysteries such as The Room VR or Red Matter, and veterans of horror exploration games who want a story-first experience with a darker historical edge.
