You play Razputin Aquato, a runaway young psychic determined to earn a place among the Psychonauts, an elite agency of mind-reading secret agents. Double Fine’s cult-classic platformer mixes Saturday-morning-cartoon energy with sharp jokes about insecurity, obsession, trauma, and the bizarre ways people see themselves. The result is funny and imaginative, but often pleasantly unsettling when Raz enters minds that have gone badly wrong.

Emotional baggage literally chases Raz around, hidden memories become vaults to unlock, and the game’s best jokes coexist with surprisingly sincere character writing. Its 3D platforming sits somewhere between the collectathon structure of Jak and Daxter and the offbeat comic sensibility of Tim Burton, with far more emphasis on psychological absurdity. Players who value inventive worlds and memorable writing over flawless technical polish find a classic worth revisiting, while newcomers should expect a rewarding but distinctly mid-2000s platforming challenge.
