ReCore: Definitive Edition blends third-person shooting with platforming and a distinctly upbeat robot-companion adventure, giving its lonely sci-fi setting more warmth than its premise initially suggests. The story leans on Joule’s bond with her Corebot allies, making the journey feel like a search-and-rescue mission conducted alongside a small mechanical family.

Combat revolves around rapid blaster fire, evasive movement, charged shots, and extracting colored energy cores from damaged enemies. Matching your weapon’s color to an opponent’s core breaks defenses quickly, while switching between companion bots lets you exploit specialized attacks and traversal skills. Mack the robotic dog digs up treasure and sniffs out paths, Seth the spider-like bot climbs magnetic surfaces, Duncan smashes obstacles, and later allies open further routes through the world. Progression comes from gathering materials, crafting stronger gear, upgrading cores, clearing challenge-filled dungeons, and revisiting earlier regions once new abilities make previously unreachable secrets accessible.

Its best ideas come from the Corebot system: partners are not disposable summons, but customizable explorers whose bodies, stats, and uses can be adjusted to suit different challenges. Far Eden’s structure recalls Metroid Prime and other ability-gated adventure games, although the shooting and loot loop make it feel closer to a lighter, more accessible third-person action RPG than a pure Metroidvania. The Definitive Edition adds the Eye of Obsidian campaign content, the tank-like T8-NK Corebot, more equipment options, and additional endgame challenges, helping round out a campaign that originally feels uneven near its finale.
