The ruins of a fallen interstellar civilization make for a demanding tactical playground in Relic Space, a turn-based RPG that mixes roguelike tension with the larger concerns of a 4X strategy game. Set in 2612, the campaign casts you as an Omega pilot serving the Order, a survivor society of engineered warriors trying to recover lost technology and restore a shattered galaxy. An emerging threat complicates that mission, giving the hard-science-fiction setting a grim, purposeful edge rather than treating space as a simple backdrop. It is less about flashy heroics than calculated survival, long-term influence, and keeping a damaged ship functional far from safety.

Combat plays out on a hex grid, with each turn allowing a single-tile movement or action that keeps encounters quick while rewarding careful positioning. Space physics matter: coasting in a straight line conserves resources, while turning, braking, and accelerating consume valuable energy, so every chase and retreat becomes a navigation puzzle. Incoming fire can cripple specific engines, weapons, and utility modules, with failures such as fires, power leaks, and other malfunctions forcing you to manage heat, fuel, energy, and repairs alongside enemy threats. Between battles, you travel through more than 40 sectors, take missions, build reputation, unlock pilot skills, research relics, obtain stronger vessels, and create specialized loadouts from a large selection of equipment.

Its strongest feature is the way personal ship combat connects to a living strategic map. Major and minor factions pursue trade, research, construction, and political goals independently, yet your choices can push their plans toward success or ruin, making the procedurally assembled solar system feel reactive rather than disposable. Handcrafted narrative material gives the campaign structure, while generated events and flexible ship builds provide reasons to start again with a different pilot role or factional approach.
