Renegade Ops

A top-down arcade war zone gives every jeep, tank column, fuel depot, and helicopter convoy a reason to explode. Renegade Ops casts players as elite drivers fighting Inferno, a cartoonishly ruthless dictator whose private army threatens the world through heavily fortified island territories. The tone lands somewhere between an ’80s action movie and a score-chasing arcade shooter: loud, fast, and gleefully destructive rather than grimly tactical. Varied tropical, industrial, and snowy battlefields keep the campaign moving while collapsing structures and environmental hazards make the battlefield feel suitably chaotic.

Missions mix straightforward assaults with rescues, convoy interceptions, demolition jobs, and timed objectives, all viewed from an accessible overhead perspective. Each of the four operatives brings a distinct vehicle and signature special weapon, so one player may lean on heavy firepower while another favors speed, missiles, or crowd control. Destroying enemies and completing side tasks earns experience, unlocking upgrades that strengthen weapons and abilities over the course of the campaign. Solo play works well, but the real draw is cooperative play: two people can share a screen locally, while online sessions support up to four drivers working together—or quietly competing for the best score and leaderboard position.

What separates Renegade Ops from more serious vehicle-combat games is its emphasis on momentum and collateral damage. The controls remain simple enough for newcomers to jump in, yet mission scoring, optional targets, character upgrades, and different vehicle specialties give arcade veterans plenty of reasons to replay stages. Avalanche Studios fills the maps with destructible targets and branching routes, encouraging players to improvise instead of merely following a narrow corridor.
