Resident Evil Revelations 2 (v2019.05.28 & ALL DLC)

A remote prison island becomes the stage for a grim, episodic survival-horror story built around fractured families, bioterror experiments, and constant uncertainty. Claire Redfield and newcomer Moira Burton wake inside a decaying detention complex with little equipment, while Barry Burton arrives later to hunt for his missing daughter alongside the unnervingly gifted child Natalia. Resident Evil Revelations 2 trades blockbuster spectacle for claustrophobic corridors, ruined villages, and the uneasy feeling that every locked door conceals another disaster. Its tone is pulpy and melodramatic in classic Resident Evil fashion, but the atmosphere remains consistently bleak.

Campaign chapters alternate between two pairs whose abilities complement each other. Claire and Barry handle firearms, melee finishers, and the tougher enemies, while Moira uses her flashlight to reveal supplies and stun threats, and Natalia senses hostile creatures through walls and identifies hidden items. Careful ammunition use, scavenging, simple environmental puzzles, and character switching form the central loop, especially when confronting the grotesque Rotten and stitched-together Revenants. Two players can tackle the story in local co-op, though the asymmetrical roles mean the support characters play very differently from the armed leads; solo players can swap partners at will. Difficulty settings and collectible upgrades add reasons to revisit episodes and improve survival odds.

Its strongest idea is the split timeline: Barry’s sections take place months after Claire’s, letting players see consequences before learning their cause. That structure creates satisfying callbacks and gives the island a more cohesive sense of place than a straightforward linear campaign. Raid Mode provides the long-term action alternative, offering a large set of combat stages, unlockable characters, weapon parts, skills, escalating levels, and both solo and cooperative play. Fans of Resident Evil 4-era over-the-shoulder shooting who still want limited resources and darker horror pacing will find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get a self-contained adventure that benefits from, but does not demand, series knowledge.
