Resident Evil Revelations balances its ocean-liner horror with flashbacks and parallel missions that uncover a bioterror conspiracy reaching far beyond the ship’s decks. The mood lands closer to classic survival horror than the all-out spectacle of Resident Evil 5, emphasizing isolation, uneasy exploration, and the worry that the next door hides something worse. Its HD presentation sharpens the oppressive environments with stronger lighting, cleaner detail, and suitably ominous sound design.

Most of the campaign revolves around searching claustrophobic locations for keys, evidence, ammunition, and upgrades while conserving limited supplies for sudden encounters. Jill uses firearms and throwable weapons against infected enemies, but careful positioning matters because many monsters close distance quickly and cramped rooms offer little room to escape. The Genesis scanner gives investigation a practical purpose: sweep rooms and enemies to locate concealed items and resources, adding a light detective layer to the usual survival routine. Infernal Mode reshuffles enemy and item placement rather than merely inflating damage, making repeat runs genuinely less predictable for players who already know the story.

Raid Mode provides the strongest long-term hook, turning selected stages into score-driven combat missions playable solo or in online co-op. Characters level up, weapons gain parts and perks, and a growing roster—including Hunk and Rachel—encourages experimenting with different loadouts against increasingly nasty enemy groups. The campaign’s episodic structure can feel uneven, especially when it shifts away from Jill’s shipbound investigation, but its concentrated tension and varied settings keep the pace moving. Fans of Resident Evil 1, 4, and Revelations 2 who want a blend of old-school resource management and modern third-person shooting find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get an accessible, self-contained horror adventure with a worthwhile co-op side mode.
