A tiny robot begins each expedition almost helpless, then turns a compact sci-fi maze inside out once its missing upgrades come online. Robot Wants It All collects six brisk 2D exploration-platforming adventures: the four original Robot Wants entries, the puzzle-centric Robot Wants Y!?, and the newer Robot Wants Justice. Cheerful pixel art and a silly quest for pets and treats mask a demanding arcade edge, with alien-infested rooms, tight jumps, and a timer that constantly pushes players toward faster routes.

Every adventure starts by limiting the robot’s movement, sometimes to the point where it cannot even jump, before hidden upgrades gradually unlock mobility, firepower, survivability, and access to sealed-off areas. Runs revolve around studying a dense map, choosing the safest or quickest route to the next crucial ability, then using new powers to revisit earlier barriers and chase the target item. Individual games put their own spin on the formula, from shooting-heavy combat and throwable cats to bomb-based navigation, light RPG progression, pure puzzles, and aerial combo attacks. Short standard maps make each campaign approachable in a single sitting, while alternate Easy and Remix layouts substantially change route planning and challenge.

Speedrunning is the real long-term hook, rather than a side activity reserved for experts. Online score tables track different mutator combinations, and the 12 modifiers can make a run friendlier, stranger, or brutally restrictive, giving veterans plenty of reasons to revisit familiar levels. Unlocks purchased with earned in-game currency add modes and features without burying the package behind extra purchases. Fans of Super Metroid’s ability-gated exploration or compact games like Gato Roboto should appreciate the focused design, while newcomers get a useful introduction to the genre through short, replayable campaigns—provided they can tolerate some old-school precision and repeated attempts.
