Players investigate scenes by clicking through environments, collecting odd items, interrogating suspects, and combining inventory objects to solve puzzles. Sam handles most of the detective work, but Max’s collection of psychic Toys of Power becomes the central mechanical twist: depending on the item equipped, he can read minds, glimpse the future, teleport, transform into a giant monster, or manipulate objects in ways that open new puzzle solutions. Progress relies more on dialogue, observation, and absurd lateral thinking than reflexes, with puzzles generally designed around figuring out how the show’s bizarre logic applies to the current situation. Each episode tells a self-contained case while feeding clues and consequences into the larger story, giving the season a stronger sense of momentum than a collection of unrelated adventures.

The Devil’s Playhouse stands out because it treats its cartoon comedy seriously enough to build a surprisingly coherent mystery around it. Cinematic camera work, expressive character animation, and a strong voice cast give the proceedings more energy than many traditional adventure games, while the escalating use of Max’s powers keeps the puzzle design from feeling static.
