Combat uses improvised melee weapons and firearms, but ammunition is scarce and enemies are dangerous enough that fighting rarely feels like the clean solution. A mental-health system reflects Tapp’s deteriorating condition, distorting his perception and making the asylum feel increasingly hostile as the investigation continues.

SAW stands apart from more action-heavy horror games by treating its setting as one long, malicious puzzle box rather than a simple monster-filled gauntlet. Its traps capture the franchise’s cruel ingenuity, asking players to read clues, manage panic, and decide how much risk they accept to rescue strangers. The visuals and controls show their age, and some puzzle solutions can be more awkward than clever, but the atmosphere remains effective for fans of the movies.
