Each mission asks players to solve environmental puzzles by writing objects into existence: summon a helicopter to reach a rooftop, create a shark to deal with underwater trouble, or use something far stranger if it gets the job done. Maxwell can call on thousands of DC-themed characters, vehicles, weapons, gadgets, and oddities, while the Batcomputer acts as an in-game reference for finding specific names. Starite shards reward successful solutions, and optional Heroic Feats add extra conditions that encourage more creative approaches than simply dropping an overpowered hero into every scene. Dynamic mission variations help familiar areas retain some replay value, although the challenge generally favors experimentation and humor over demanding action.

The Hero Creator is the standout addition, letting players combine visual parts from DC characters and objects to build customized heroes, villains, and wonderfully cursed mashups. Creations can receive traits and abilities, then be used in puzzles or shared for others to alter, giving the game a toy-box quality that suits its premise. Compared with LEGO Batman, it offers less combat and platforming but far more freedom to improvise solutions; compared with earlier Scribblenauts entries, its licensed universe gives the notebook’s chaos a stronger sense of place. It is an easy recommendation for younger players, comic-book fans, and anyone who enjoys sandbox puzzle games where inventiveness matters more than reflexes.
