Most of your time is split between navigating a large sea map, visiting towns, speaking with quest givers, trading cargo, and managing the condition of your ship and crew. Naval battles reward smart positioning, ammunition choices, boarding tactics, and an understanding of wind rather than simple cannon spam; captured vessels can become prizes, replacements, or additions to a growing fleet. On land, Charles handles quests through dialogue, investigation, stealthy errands, and real-time sword-and-pistol combat, although the close-quarters fighting is more functional than elegant. Character development comes through skills, perks, equipment, reputation, money, officers, and increasingly capable ships, while faction work lets you serve national governments, pursue commerce, or live as a pirate.
