What makes Shadow Complex Remastered endure is its excellent sense of momentum: nearly every new upgrade immediately creates another route, secret, or combat advantage worth testing. Its world is compact compared with modern open-world games, yet the interconnected facility feels satisfyingly dense, with optional collectibles and sequence-breaking possibilities encouraging repeat runs. The side-scrolling structure recalls Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, while its gunplay and military presentation give it a distinct identity.
