The mood is cerebral and theatrical, with famous landmarks, aristocratic interiors, museums, and foggy streets serving as stages for Lupin’s elaborate provocations. Its story leans into the rivalry between two legendary fictional figures, making each new clue feel like part of a carefully planned duel.

Investigations revolve around examining environments, speaking with suspects, gathering documents, and using inventory items in logical combinations. Holmes and Dr. Watson are both playable at different points, and their distinct roles add a welcome bit of variety as the case moves between public monuments and more secluded locations. Progress depends on close observation: players inspect objects, follow written leads, solve mechanical and logic-based puzzles, and revisit areas once new information changes the situation. More than forty characters can be questioned, while the large collection of evidence and usable objects makes the adventure feel appropriately methodical, even if some puzzles demand patience and old-school adventure-game intuition.

What separates Nemesis from many detective games is its use of London itself as a puzzle box, with the British Museum, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and other recognizable sites woven directly into the investigation. The real-time 3D presentation gives these locations more presence than the static backdrops common to earlier point-and-click mysteries, although the pace remains deliberately slow and dialogue-heavy. Lupin is an especially effective antagonist because he does not merely hide clues; he challenges Holmes to prove he is the superior mind. Fans of Syberia, classic Agatha Christie adventures, or later Sherlock Holmes investigations will find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should come prepared for deliberate pacing and occasionally demanding puzzles.
