The Underworld is not a grim prison in Skelattack; it is a colorful, bustling afterlife where skeletons, ghosts, and monsters build an unexpectedly cheerful home. You play Skully, a newly deceased skeleton whose peaceful existence in Aftervale ends when human raiders invade and abduct the realm’s inhabitants. Rather than looting treasure, the invaders threaten the people Skully has only just begun to know, giving the adventure a surprisingly warm, character-driven motivation. The result is a bright 2D action platformer with a cartoon-gothic look and a playful sense of humor.

Skully runs, jumps, wall-climbs, dodges, and attacks through interconnected stages packed with enemy ambushes, spikes, moving platforms, and hidden routes. Combat relies on quick melee strikes and careful positioning, while Skully’s flying bat companion, Imber, adds another layer by helping with attacks and traversal. New abilities steadily expand your movement options, encouraging returns to earlier areas for secrets and previously unreachable collectibles in familiar Metroidvania fashion. Checkpoints keep the challenge from becoming punishing, but later platforming rooms and boss encounters still demand timing, pattern recognition, and a willingness to retry.

Its strongest feature is the reversal of the usual dungeon-crawling fantasy: humans are the invaders, while the monsters are the community worth defending. Hand-drawn animation gives every resident personality, and the lively Underworld feels more like a strange animated series than a conventional haunted kingdom. Skelattack is shorter and more focused than sprawling genre giants such as Hollow Knight, with less emphasis on deep character builds and more on approachable platforming momentum. Fans of Shovel Knight, Guacamelee!, or colorful retro-inspired action games should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get a forgiving entry point into exploration-heavy platformers.
