Each run sends you through hostile fantasy strongholds, filthy sewers, caverns, and a sorcerer’s fortress as you carve through the forces responsible for your demise. The result feels energetic and approachable, but death still matters: a failed expedition sends you back to rebuild and try a new approach.

Combat revolves around clearing enemy-packed rooms with melee attacks, evasive movement, and a broad pool of run-defining perks and trinkets. Gear drops improve your skeletal fighter’s offense and survivability, while permanent purchases steadily raise your chances on later attempts. The standout move is literally losing your head: tossing it triggers a special attack, and the helmet you wear changes what that attack does, encouraging experiments with different hats and builds. Levels blend procedural layouts with hand-crafted encounters, so the four main regions retain their own identity while runs avoid becoming too predictable. Solo play works well for learning enemy patterns and optimizing a build, while local co-op supports two to four players for far more chaotic dungeon runs.

Its head-throwing system gives Skeletal Avenger a memorable mechanical hook in a genre crowded with sword-swinging undead adventures. More than 50 perks and trinkets provide enough combinations to make aggressive brawlers, status-focused setups, and unusual utility builds feel worthwhile, especially when paired with changing equipment. Enemy variety is not enormous compared with genre giants such as Hades or Dead Cells, but the compact structure keeps the pace moving and makes it easy to fit in short runs. Fans of roguelites who want less punishing complexity, along with couch co-op groups looking for a light fantasy action game, find plenty to enjoy here; veterans may appreciate the build tinkering more than the challenge.
