Smart Moves is an indie adventure-puzzle game built around strict turn order rather than reflexes, turning fights and treasure hunting into careful spatial calculations. Its tone is clean, cerebral, and occasionally ruthless: enemies are not fodder for a power fantasy, but pieces in a tactical arrangement. Each self-contained stage asks players to study positions, attack ranges, and interactive scenery before committing to a move.

Combat depends on adjacency, so the hero strikes only when standing beside a monster, while careless positioning can leave him exposed to an immediate counterattack. Turns cannot simply be passed, making movement a resource in itself; instead, players manipulate stage objects or the placement of other enemies to alter the flow of actions. Opening a chest or removing a creature is rarely just a reward, since either choice can change the safe route through the board. Progress comes from understanding how every object affects every other object, then finding the particular sequence that solves the level without walking into a fatal exchange.

Smart Moves stands apart by treating its mechanics as the entire challenge rather than dressing conventional combat in puzzle-game clothing. The stylized original artwork gives the boards a distinct identity, but clarity remains the priority, allowing players to focus on the consequences of each square they enter. Levels reward patience, experimentation, and the satisfaction of spotting a solution that initially feels impossible, closer in spirit to a compact tactical puzzle than a sprawling RPG.
