Snuff

A brutal, low-poly first-person shooter channels the grim excess of early-2000s action games into a globe-spanning revenge story. Dexter, a programmer and hacker, becomes a marked man after uncovering information tied to a shadowy Corporation, surviving an attempted hit with help from an old ally. His response is not escape but retaliation: track the organization’s leadership across deserts, jungles, frozen mountains, Soviet-era bunkers, temples, cities, ships, and more. The mood is deliberately harsh and pulpy, built around conspiracies, assassins, and relentless gunfire rather than subtle heroics.

Missions revolve around pushing through hostile territory, finding the target at the end of the operation, and surviving waves of loyal enforcers with an unusually broad arsenal. Pistols, revolvers, SMGs, assault rifles, shotguns, bolt-action weapons, sniper rifles, and melee tools all support different approaches to close-quarters brawls and longer-range encounters. Bullet time slows the action when Dexter’s adrenaline meter is charged through kills, creating openings to line up difficult shots or escape dangerous crossfire. Enemies can be dismembered, reinforcing the game’s intentionally graphic, arcade-like combat, while 13 assassination-focused missions and four story chapters provide a compact single-player campaign with 13 boss encounters.

Snuff stands out less through polish than through commitment to a specific lost-PC-shooter sensibility: chunky visuals, aggressive pacing, varied locations, and a knowingly tasteless action-movie edge. Its mission structure nods toward Hitman, but players should expect direct firefights far more often than elaborate social stealth; Max Payne-style slow motion and Manhunt’s grim atmosphere are closer points of reference. The wide weapon selection and distinct settings help keep the campaign moving even when its design remains straightforward. It suits players who miss rough-edged, mission-based shooters and want an unapologetically violent throwback, while anyone seeking refined stealth systems, deep character progression, or modern production values may find its old-school approach too blunt.
