A shattered fantasy realm becomes the battlefield for an ambitious civilization in Sorcerer King: Rivals, a turn-based 4X strategy game built around magic, conquest, and a race toward godlike power. Players lead one of several distinct factions beneath the looming threat of the Sorcerer King, an enemy whose armies and ruined territories dominate much of Elemental. Your settlement’s greatest advantage is the Forge of the Overlord, an artifact capable of producing exceptional enchanted weapons and equipment for the heroes and armies under your command. The mood is grand but hostile: every expansion carries the promise of treasure, rival empires, and another threat waiting beyond the fog of war.

Turns revolve around scouting a procedurally generated map, claiming resources, founding cities, and directing military units across a world full of dungeons, temples, bandit camps, and troubled settlements. Champions function as powerful individual leaders, gaining gear, spells, and abilities while commanding troops or pursuing dangerous adventures away from the main front. Research unlocks increasingly potent magic and improvements, while terraforming spells let you reshape terrain to support your growing realm or frustrate an opponent’s plans. Victory is not limited to simple military domination, since the long-term objective involves gathering magical power from shards and casting the Spell of Ascension before enemies can stop you.

Rivals adds tension beyond the usual empire-building formula by making other rising civilizations active competitors rather than background factions, each capable of diplomacy, war, and pursuing its own path to supremacy. Eight playable races provide different flavors of expansion, from dwarven forces in icy territory to the sinister Endless Night, while champions and crafted artifacts give armies a more personal, RPG-like edge. Random maps, numerous adventure sites, and an included map editor make campaigns replayable even after the central struggle becomes familiar.
