Three playable protagonists bring different perspectives to the same district, with their separate stories gradually crossing over.

Progress comes from using skills in the field instead of spending abstract points at a level-up screen. Lean on persuasion, observation, etiquette, physical resilience, criminal know-how, or stranger talents often enough and those abilities improve; neglect them and they remain limited. Conversations and risky actions resolve through a tarot-based chance system rather than ordinary dice rolls, so preparation, appearance, background, and learned information can all shape an outcome before luck enters the picture. Problems invite flexible solutions, whether that means talking your way through a confrontation, investigating carefully, gambling on a bold move, relying on magic, or indulging in substances that may open doors while creating new complications.

The card mechanic gives failure more personality than a simple dead end, since bad draws can reveal consequences, alternate routes, or useful lessons rather than merely stopping progress. NPCs respond to details such as race, gender, clothing, and dialogue choices, making character creation and social role-playing matter beyond cosmetic flavor. The docklands cover roughly twenty distinct locations, rewarding players who read closely, revisit leads, and test unconventional responses instead of rushing through objectives. Anyone who enjoys the skill-driven conversations and messy urban atmosphere of Disco Elysium, but wants a more fantastical Victorian setting and multiple interlocking protagonists, finds plenty to appreciate here; action-first RPG fans may find its slower, text-led approach less compelling.
