Tiny plant-like settlers turn survival into a hands-on management puzzle, balancing the charm of a miniature garden with the pressure of a colony that can quietly collapse. Sproots is an indie colony survival game built around guiding a community of small creatures that need regular food, water, shelter, knowledge, and eventually a new generation to replace them. Its mood is gentle and colorful rather than grim, but the constant needs of the colony keep every expedition and assignment meaningful. A run is designed as a compact 2–5 hour campaign, making it approachable for players who want the satisfaction of building a functioning settlement without committing to a huge sandbox.

You direct individual sproots in a Sims-style fashion, deciding who gathers resources, investigates unfamiliar objects, builds useful equipment, or stays close to camp. Water comes from the life-giving plant near the settlement, while food demands more active planning as you send workers into surrounding environments and make use of what they uncover. Every creature ages and eventually dies, so breeding eggs at the nest is essential instead of an optional late-game goal. Learning drives progression: sproots can examine discoveries, develop skills, create structures and items, then pass useful knowledge to one another so the colony does not lose momentum when its older members disappear.

Five biomes give the small-scale map variety, with 35 discoverable items encouraging players to look beyond immediate survival needs. The skill and crafting systems—covering 11 learnable abilities and 13 recipes—make each colony feel shaped by the tasks you prioritize, rather than simply by how many workers you have. Sproots stands out by mixing the direct creature management of Pikmin with the individual needs and social learning of The Sims, while keeping its scope deliberately concise.
