It is a colorful, upbeat series built around the simple pleasure of running, flying, and setting enemies on fire.

Spyro’s move set stays wonderfully direct: charge through foes and fragile obstacles, breathe fire at anything that deserves it, and use a limited glide to cross gaps and reach hidden ledges. Every level encourages a thorough sweep for gems, rescued dragons or eggs, and optional challenges, while portals steadily open routes to new realms. The first game focuses on straightforward exploration and platforming; Ripto’s Rage! adds ability upgrades, side activities, and Orb collectibles; Year of the Dragon broadens the formula further with playable companions such as Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, and Bentley. Progression is approachable, though fully completing each world demands careful platforming, smart use of Spyro’s movement, and occasional returns after earning new abilities.

What separates the collection from many modern platformers is its compact, dense level design: stages are not enormous, but they are packed with alternate paths, secrets, and memorable visual themes. The remastered presentation gives every kingdom a storybook personality, from sunny artisan villages to icy peaks and spooky swamps, while the option to switch musical styles respects the originals. Camera behavior and some precision jumps can still feel a little old-school, but the responsive movement and generous lives keep frustration low. Fans of Crash Bandicoot N.
