Game Overview

The Jedi are nearly gone, the Republic is buckling, and every surviving faction has its own idea of what the Force should become. Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords trades its predecessor’s clean-cut space-opera heroism for a darker, more introspective role-playing adventure set thousands of years before the films. You play the Exile, a former Jedi trying to regain a connection to the Force while uncovering why the Sith are systematically wiping out the Order. Familiar Star Wars locations, alien cultures, lightsabers, and starships are all here, but the story is more interested in doubt, trauma, loyalty, and the cost of power than simple good-versus-evil spectacle.

Gameplay uses a party-based real-time-with-pause combat system built around blasters, melee weapons, Force powers, feats, and tactical positioning. The Exile begins from one of three Jedi-focused paths and develops through level-ups, equipment, crafting, influence with companions, and increasingly potent Force abilities. Conversations drive much of the adventure, with choices steering the character toward the light or dark side while affecting party members’ beliefs, availability, and personal story arcs. Planets function as large quest hubs filled with dialogue-heavy investigations, moral decisions, droids to repair, locked areas to bypass, and combat encounters that become demanding when enemies swarm or Force users enter the fight.

What makes the sequel memorable is its willingness to question the mythology behind the Force itself, helped by some of the sharpest companion writing in the franchise. Kreia remains a fascinating, manipulative mentor whose reactions make morality feel less like a score meter and more like an argument with consequences. The original release has rough edges, including an abrupt late-game stretch and content that feels unfinished, though the long-running Restored Content Mod substantially improves the experience for PC players. Fans of BioWare-style choice-driven RPGs, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, or the first Knights of the Old Republic find plenty to love, especially if they prefer dense writing and player agency over fast action.
