Star Wars Republic Commando is a tactical first-person shooter that casts you as Delta-38, leader of the four-man Delta Squad, during the Republic’s brutal campaign against Separatist forces. Its story moves from the rain-soaked streets of Kashyyyk to a derelict Republic ship, placing familiar Star Wars locations alongside the grittier military side of the setting. The tone is intense and cinematic, but the squad’s dry banter gives the campaign a welcome sense of personality.

Combat revolves around pushing through hostile territory while directing three highly capable squadmates. A contextual command system lets you point at doors, turrets, cover positions, explosives, and wounded allies, then assign a commando to breach, snipe, hack, demolish, or provide fire support with minimal menu management. You still do the hardest shooting yourself, switching between a reliable modular blaster, grenades, and enemy weapons while managing health through limited bacta stations scattered across each mission. Encounters reward positioning and quick priorities rather than lone-wolf run-and-gun tactics, especially when Super Battle Droids, Trandoshans, and Geonosian swarms begin to overwhelm the squad. The campaign remains focused and linear, with no character-building system, but its set pieces and varied enemy factions keep the pace moving.

What separates it from most licensed shooters is how naturally it makes squad leadership feel part of the action instead of an extra chore. Orders are fast, readable, and satisfying, while Delta Squad usually acts intelligently enough that victories feel coordinated rather than scripted. Its chunky early-2000s visuals and straightforward level design show their age, yet the atmosphere, sound design, and helmet-view presentation still sell the fantasy of being a Republic special-forces soldier. Fans of Halo, Rainbow Six, and Star Wars military fiction find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should expect an old-school shooter that values checkpoint management, direct objectives, and a memorable single-player campaign over modern customization.
