StarCrawlers Chimera is a compact sci-fi dungeon-crawling RPG built around a single dangerous contract: locate the elusive Dr. Cerberus somewhere inside a hostile research complex. Its mood balances grimy cyberpunk mercenary work with flashes of absurd humor, where a lethal plasma rifle can share inventory space with a bizarre novelty weapon. Rather than commanding a full party, you shape one morally flexible operative into the kind of specialist who can survive the facility’s escalating threats.

Each run sends you through procedurally assembled floors, searching rooms for equipment, credits, terminals, secrets, and the next route deeper into the complex. Combat plays out in tactical turn-based encounters, asking you to manage cooldowns, exploit enemy weaknesses, and decide whether a powerful ability is worth spending before the next unknown fight. Character building is unusually broad for a focused roguelite RPG, with more than 100 abilities spread across 36 trees tied to Muscle, Guile, and Intellect. Looted weapons and armor meaningfully alter your approach, while selectable difficulty settings let players make the experience forgiving, demanding, or permanently fatal through optional permadeath.

The strongest draw is the freedom to make wildly different builds without needing to commit to a lengthy, hundred-hour campaign. One mercenary may become a close-range bruiser with blades and defensive upgrades, while another relies on hacking, tricks, firearms, and disruptive status effects.
