Starsector is a single-player sandbox RPG built around commanding a fleet through a richly simulated space economy, and it earns its cult reputation through a rare mix of tactical combat and player freedom. You can become a merchant moving supplies between desperate worlds, a bounty hunter chasing pirate armadas, an explorer salvaging lost technology, or a colony founder trying to build an independent power. What separates Starsector from many space sandboxes is the weight of its ship design and economy: a battered freighter, a fast destroyer, and a capital ship all demand different tactics and logistical sacrifices.
