Paris becomes a cartoonishly hostile playground where every alley, street corner, and nightclub hides another gang looking for a fight. Streets of Fury EX delivers an old-school side-scrolling brawler with a deliberately ridiculous sense of humor, exaggerated martial-arts action, and a cast that feels more like a collection of wrestling gimmicks than conventional heroes. Its digitized live-action visuals give every punch, pose, and special attack an enjoyably scrappy B-movie flavor. Beneath the silliness sits a surprisingly technical combat system built for players who want more than simple button mashing.

Fights revolve around clearing enemy-packed stages while managing positioning, crowds, and the opportunities created by launches, knockdowns, and evasive moves. Standard attacks link into chain combos, aerial strings, cancels, throws, special techniques, dodges, and powerful Fury attacks, allowing skilled players to keep opponents trapped or escape when the screen gets crowded. Twenty-four playable fighters bring their own moves and personalities, encouraging experimentation as you unlock more of the roster and modes. Up to four people play locally in co-op, but the competitive options also let friends settle arguments directly rather than merely sharing the same screen.

What separates it from many retro-inspired brawlers is its attempt to borrow the expressive combo potential of a versus fighter without abandoning the easy-to-read “move right and wreck gangs” structure. The result can be gleefully chaotic with four players, yet solo players still get a combat system worth practicing instead of a shallow nostalgia trip. Its humor and intentionally awkward visual style will not suit anyone seeking a polished, serious action game, but fans of Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and fighting-game lab work find plenty to enjoy. Newcomers can have fun with basic attacks, while veterans get the most from learning each character’s routes, cancels, and Fury timing.
