Guns can be modified with modular components, while medical resources and equipment demand thoughtful management instead of endless stockpiling. You also maintain vital systems and defend generators from attacks, so survival means balancing exploration, crafting, healing, and base security rather than simply clearing every room.

What separates Subterrain from many survival games is its insistence that the player’s body matters as much as their firepower. The top-down presentation recalls tense action-RPGs, but the underlying structure leans closer to a survival sim, with resource pressure and time-sensitive crises creating a deliberate, sometimes punishing rhythm. Its underground Mars setting gives the scavenging loop a strong sense of isolation, and the evolving infection ensures familiar routes never remain entirely safe.
