Al-Warth turns an unlikely collection of anime worlds into the stage for a grand tactical war, where giant robots, legendary pilots, and alternate timelines collide. SUPER ROBOT WARS X is less a traditional action game than a character-heavy tactical RPG, built around dramatic crossover battles between franchises such as Gundam, Code Geass, Mazinger, Gurren Lagann, Wataru, and many more. Its tone shifts comfortably from earnest heroism and apocalyptic stakes to goofy team banter, which is exactly the appeal: seeing icons from wildly different shows share a battlefield. The story follows a new cast drawn into this strange realm while familiar heroes fight to uncover the force linking their destinies.

Combat plays out on grid-based maps where players move units, manage range and terrain, choose weapons, and position fragile support characters behind powerful front-line machines. Each pilot gains experience, learns skills, upgrades their mecha, and builds Morale—called Will—which unlocks stronger attacks and encourages aggressive play. Battles become increasingly elaborate as units join forces through support attacks, counterattacks, special commands, transforming machines, and spectacular animated finishers. Difficulty is approachable for newcomers thanks to extensive customization and optional assistance, while veterans can chase better upgrades, smarter squad composition, and tougher hidden objectives.

What separates X from a simple licensed strategy collection is the care put into its crossover fantasy: the campaign constantly finds reasons for radically different casts to argue, cooperate, and react to one another’s worlds. Maps favor satisfying power escalation over punishing tactics, so the real reward is gradually turning favorite robots into unstoppable showpieces and watching their signature moves in motion. The PC release includes all 20 bonus scenarios from the earlier version, adding more side stories and opportunities to level units.
