Corporate warfare replaces government in a sleek, vicious 2069 where every service, purchase, and private thought passes through a neural implant. Syndicate recasts the old tactical strategy series as a fast, cinematic first-person shooter, putting players behind the eyes of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp’s newest engineered field agent. The setting feels like a hard-edged cyberpunk thriller rather than a distant fantasy: gleaming corporate offices, packed city districts, and militarized research facilities all conceal the cost of total commercial control. Its story of sabotage, betrayal, and revenge keeps the action moving through a world where companies treat human lives as assets.

Gunfights combine familiar FPS weapon handling with Kilo’s DART 6 chip, a combat interface that lets him manipulate the networked battlefield. Enemies can be forced to turn on allies, overload their own implants, or briefly surrender their weapons, while hacked doors, turrets, and electronic systems open tactical routes through arenas. Assault rifles, shotguns, sniper weapons, explosives, and powerful experimental firearms give encounters a suitably destructive rhythm, but careful use of breaches often matters more than simply finding cover and firing. The campaign pushes players through linear but varied missions, with upgrades enhancing Kilo’s abilities and encouraging aggressive use of his augmented powers. A separate four-player co-op mode also builds missions around coordinated hacking, revives, and team roles, although its online availability can depend on platform support.

What separates Syndicate from most shooters of its era is the way its hacking abilities remain immediate and violent instead of becoming slow puzzle interruptions. The cool white corporate architecture, neon cityscapes, and harsh sound design sell a future that is polished on the surface and deeply hostile underneath. It lacks the open-ended tactical planning of the 1993 original, so longtime fans expecting a modern strategy revival may be disappointed, but it works well as a focused cyberpunk shooter with flashes of Deus Ex-style augmentation. Players who enjoy aggressive, story-driven FPS campaigns and inventive powers in the middle of firefights find the most to like here.
