Tavern of Gods casts you as one of these spectators, choosing a hero and assembling a band of followers before sending them through demon-haunted territory. The mood is lighter than a grim dungeon crawler, but every run still carries the familiar roguelite tension of trying to turn a shaky early squad into a force capable of crushing the final demon leader. Its board-game framing suits the experience: positioning, unit choices, and lucky finds matter as much as raw numbers.

Battles revolve around recruiting more than 35 possible followers, arranging their abilities into an effective formation, and exploiting race and class combinations for powerful synergy bonuses. Fallen enemies yield souls that improve followers through star promotions, while the chosen hero contributes support skills that can swing difficult encounters; skill books add random modifiers that make builds less predictable. Equipment is equally important, since items carry individual properties and three matching-quality pieces can be merged into stronger gear, with collectible sets offering another layer of bonuses. Expeditions also introduce merchants for trades and bartering, giving players chances to patch weak spots, chase a particular combo, or gamble resources on a better late-game payoff.

Its strongest appeal comes from how many interconnected build decisions fit into a relatively approachable run: hero selection, traits, unit upgrades, synergies, artifacts, and equipment sets all push a roster in different directions. Progress does not end when an expedition fails or concludes, as earned diamonds unlock additional heroes, talents, follower features, and item sets back at the tavern for future attempts.
