Terminator: Resistance puts you in the boots of Jacob Rivers, a Resistance soldier caught in Skynet’s escalating war against humanity shortly before the events associated with the original films. Its greatest strength is the commitment to that blue-lit Future War atmosphere: laser fire cuts through smoke, broken neighborhoods hide desperate survivors, and the soundtrack knows exactly when to lean into the series’ familiar dread. The story is not merely a reenactment of movie scenes, instead following an original campaign that gradually ties its protagonist to the wider conflict.

Combat mixes straightforward first-person shooting with stealth, scavenging, hacking, and light role-playing progression. Early firearms barely trouble armored machines, forcing careful ambushes, improvised explosives, and avoidance until better weapons and plasma gear become available; ammunition also remains valuable enough to discourage careless firefights. Semi-open mission areas reward searching abandoned buildings for crafting components, notes, supplies, and side objectives, while terminals can be hacked to open routes or disrupt Skynet defenses. Dialogue choices and optional survivor missions influence relationships and determine who makes it through the campaign, giving the narrative more consequence than its linear structure initially suggests.

Rather than chasing the scale of a giant sandbox shooter, it delivers a focused, mid-budget adventure built around fan service that generally understands why the Future War imagery remains so effective. Familiar machines feel threatening instead of disposable, especially before the player gains the tools to fight them on equal terms, and the gradual power curve makes the eventual plasma-rifle battles satisfying. Some stiff character animation, modest enemy behavior, and utilitarian side content reveal its limited production values, but the atmosphere carries it a long way. Fans of the first two Terminator films, Fallout-style scavenging, and story-driven FPS campaigns should find plenty to enjoy, while veterans expecting the polish or freedom of a modern AAA open-world game should approach with more measured expectations.
